Mohsan A. Bilal


Mohsan joined NYU Stern as a first year PhD student in Finance in 2012. Born and raised in Belgium in a multicultural family of Asian heritage, he speaks six foreign languages. He obtained his BSc. and MSc. in Electrical Engineering, magna cum laude, from Ghent University in Belgium, with a short stint as a visiting student in Economics at Harvard University. Upon graduation, he moved to the University of Chicago where he earned a MSc. in Financial Mathematics in 2010. That same year, he joined the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC, where he researched topical issues including OTC derivatives (in particular the credit derivatives market) and macro-financial linkages. An avid squash player and lover of Belgian chocolate, he also enjoys playing chess and competitive soccer in his spare time.
