Professor of Statistics, holds a B.S. from Stony Brook University, 1976. He received an M.Phil. in 1978 and a Ph.D. in 1980 from Yale University. He has been at Stern since 1980. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Foundations and Trends in Econometrics, was Co-Editor of Statistical Modelling: An International Journal for 11 years, and is a former Associate Editor of the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B and a former member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Statistics Education. He is a faculty affiliate of The NYU Center for the Promotion of Research Involving Innovative Statistical Methodology (PRIISM) and The NYU Population Center. His research interests include flexible nonparametric methods, methodologies for longitudinal and time-to-event data, the analysis of large data sets, and the application of statistics to problems in business and science. He has been a consultant to several organizations, including the New York Aquarium, the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, Citicorp, the American Chiropractic Association, and the New York Public Library.
