Short Biographical Sketch

Professor of Statistics, holds a B.S. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, 1976. He received an M.Phil. in 1978 and a Ph.D. in 1980 from Yale University. He has been at Stern since 1980. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute. He is Co-Editor of Statistical Modelling: An International Journal, a member of the Editorial Board of Foundations and Trends in Econometrics, a former Associate Editor of the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B, and a former member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Statistics Education. His research interests include categorical data, outlier identification and robust estimation, smoothing methods, computer intensive statistical methodology, and applications of statistics to business problems. He has been a consultant to several organizations, including the New York Aquarium, the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, Citicorp, the American Chiropractic Association, and the New York Public Library.
